In the name of diversification you might have invested across mutual fund categories and even in stocks.
Recently one of my friend showed his portfolio where he had
invested in 26 stocks and an equal number of mutual funds.

Every time he has invested by himself by directly buying through
his demat account. In one category itself he has invested in 5
different mutual fund houses.
In Stocks too, he has bought fewer shares in each companies.
After he has bought shares had gone down and he had stopped
buying in stock market itself.
Ideal way of investing in stock market is to buy 10-15 stocks at the
maximum. So that you can also keep monitoring the progress. If
you want to make profit, then buy another new share.
Even in mutual fund, invest in one mutual fund per category. If you
find the performance is not good, then sell it off and buy a new one.
